Spin Media changes name to
SPINOZA KENNEDY VESEY PR
Founder’s nickname dropped as agency matures |
AWARD-winning
Public Relations agency Spin Media has changed its name
to Spinoza Kennedy Vesey Public Relations.
The decision has partly been brought
about because of negative connotations of the word ‘spin’
in the media – a trend which has become commonplace
since 1998, the year the agency was founded.
“In 1998, ‘spin’
was taken to mean dynamic and smart, now it has a range
of negative associations,” said Managing Director
Andrew Spinoza, whose childhood nickname was ‘Spin’
and which he used in founding the agency.
“As the agency has grown, including
delivering public sector campaigns for government agencies
and local authorities, we need to present ourselves
in a way which reflects our key attributes: intelligence,
integrity, creativity and delivery.
“The S-word was in danger of
obscuring and confusing clients and media about what
we do, and the way we operate. The original name has
outlived its usefulness and the change marks a new phase
in the agency’s evolution.”
Said Spinoza: “The three directors
in the title – myself, Daniel Kennedy and Geraldine
Vesey - have more than 50 years combined experience
of working in media and communications.”
Spin Media enjoys a strong and growing
national reputation. The agency was founded in 1998
by Spinoza, 44, a former Manchester Evening News senior
journalist.
The other directors are experienced
public relations practitioners – Daniel Kennedy,
formerly with Freud Communications in London and Mason
Williams in Manchester, and Geraldine Vesey, formerly
with Communique, PDP and McCann Erickson.
This month, the agency formerly known
as Spin Media won four North West CIPR Awards (Nov 8th)
– two Golds in Issues or Crisis Management and
Corporate and Financial Categories, and two Silvers
in Public Sector and Trade and Technical categories.
The wins bring to 23 the PR and business
awards won by the agency, which has a retained client
list including ITV Granada, the Co-operative Bank and
ISIS Waterside Regeneration, and has been awarded ISO9001:2000
quality management accreditation.
It is the only agency in the north-west
to be rated No. 1 twice (in 2002 and 2005) in the prestigious
Heat Poll conducted by North West Business Insider Magazine,
in which PR agencies rate their peers.
